Chill Out: Hypnosis for Hot Flashes

So, we’ve been spending a few weeks talking about how hypnosis can help a person chill out. To relax, to manage their stress. So today, let’s spend a little bit of time talking about how hypnosis can help you to chill out in a totally physiological way… reducing hot flashes.

We already know that the subconscious mind runs our bodies. We know that the subconscious mind is responsible to provide us with just the right amount of each hormone and neurotransmitters for our body to function properly. And we know that sometimes those hormones and neurotransmitters don’t function properly, causing imbalances in our health, both physical and emotional. What we don’t always remember is that we can direct our subconscious mind to balance those hormones and neurotransmitters without the use of medications.

A recent study of over 187 postmenopausal women who were experiencing a minimum of 50 hot flashes per week indicated that women who received as few as five weekly sessions of hypnotherapy were able to reduce their hot flashes, both in frequency and intensity, at a much higher rate than women who received only structured-attention (therapy without hypnosis). Hypnosis helped women reduce the number of hot flashes by 74.16% and the intensity of the hot-flashes by 56.86%, versus 17.3% and 9.94% for women in the control group. These results continued to increase even after the sessions were finished, with up to 95% of the women in the hypnosis group showing significant clinical improvements in hot flash related interference in their daily lives, improved sleep quality, and satisfaction with treatment.
