1. What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a natural, yet altered state of mind in which the critical factor is relaxed, and communication between the conscious and subconscious is facilitated. Hypnosis is marked by a deep quality of relaxation, a heightened responsiveness to beneficial suggestions, and an emotionalized desire to fulfill these suggestions.

3. Will hypnosis make me act against my will?
No, you are totally in control during hypnosis. Hypnosis is facilitated by the communication between your conscious and subconscious mind. In actuality, since our behavior is governed by our subconscious mind, and will power by our conscious mind, it might be said that the very purpose of hypnosis is to help us act in accordance with our will, not against it.
4. Will I lose consciousness under hypnosis?
During hypnosis, the communication between the conscious and subconscious mind is facilitated. While in hypnosis, you are fully aware of all that is happening, and are able to direct your subconscious mind to accept beneficial suggestions for change. You are able to search your subconscious mind for reasons to your behavior and to explore and accept alternative ways to have your needs met.
5. How does hypnosis work?
Hypnosis works by bringing the conscious and subconscious mind into direct communication with each other. In hypnosis, the critical factor of the mind, which acts as a filter between our conscious and subconscious mind is relaxed which allows the subconscious mind to more fully accept beneficial ideas and suggestions.
Throughout our lives, we are constantly experiencing events. To each experience, however, we form an interpretation of the event, and this in turn leads to a belief about ourselves, how we can best get our needs met, or the way the world works. Our behaviors then come to reflect these beliefs.
Early experiences go quickly into our subconscious, but by late childhood, generally between the ages of 7-12, our minds develop a stronger distinction between the conscious and subconscious mind, and the critical factor begins to exert a stronger role in our lives. By now, our general view of the world is formed, and when each new piece of information is presented, the critical factor allows into our subconscious only what tends to support our currently held beliefs. Those things that do not support these beliefs gets sent back up the subconscious mind, the seat of reason, for further evaluation.
Once the critical factor is firmly established, the best way to get new ideas into the subconscious mind is to bypass the critical factor. This can be accomplished at times of high emotion, in an effort to fit into a group or family, through repetition, or through hypnosis.
6. Can everyone be hypnotized?
About 95% of all people can be hypnotized. Those who cannot be hypnotized are those who have serious psychological or psychiatric disorders, or those who are mentally retarded.
That being said, some people do tend to go into a hypnotic trance easier than others. However, you might be surprised to learn that the more intelligent and creative a person is, the easier they are to hypnotize.
Difficulty in entering trance is often based on a person’s misconceptions about hypnosis, prior negative experiences with hypnotism, or a hypnotist’s failure to find the method that works best for that person.
7. Why should I choose hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a wonderful and powerful method of effecting deep and permanent changes in a person’s life. Because hypnotherapy bypasses the critical factor, underlying issues are more easily uncovered, addressed, and resolved. Hypnosis allows you to saturate your subconscious mind with positive thoughts and beliefs and thus replace older negative thoughts and beliefs in a much shorter time than traditional methods of therapy.
Hypnotherapy helps to bring the conscious mind (the seat of your reason and will power) into alignment with your subconscious mind (the seat of your beliefs and actions). If you have ever wondered why you just couldn’t seem to make a change on will power alone, now you know. Actions follow beliefs, not reason.
