Stress Management That Works For You

Everyone has a preferred way of approaching life. Like being right handed or left handed, these preferences are not right or wrong, just the way we like to do things. Unfortunately, when we experience stress, we tend to shift into our least developed or least preferred method of behaving.

Understanding your personality preferences, and your responses to stressful situations can help you to deal with them more beneficially. It also helps you to understand why other people react the way they do to stress as well. This unique program will radically change your relationships at home and at work.

If you are interested in learning more about your personality type, and how you can respond to stressful situations more appropriately, call Linda at 616-550-3231.

Reflections on the death of Robin Williams

Since I first heard of the death of Robin Williams earlier this week, and saw the outpouring of emotions this has caused, I’ve seen so many places, the quote, “Genie, you’re free.” At first, I thought that was a touching memorial, but the more that I ponder the senselessness of the death of a man who brought so much joy to so many people, the more I am coming to disagree.
My thoughts today come from my own experiences with depression and suicidal thoughts, as well of those of many people that I love.
What is it, I often wonder, what causes some people to follow through with such plans, and others to resist them… to press on to the other side of that abyss. And I wish I had the answer to that question. But I don’t. I do, however, have a theory.
The feelings and thoughts that lead any one person to act on their suicide plans are as varied as there are people in the world. In each of us, there is a spark that pushes us towards life. But as anyone who has ever built a fire knows, a spark does not necessarily mean a roaring fire. That spark needs fuel to continue burning. Sometimes it seems that there is just no more fuel. This feeling can feel so overpowering that it seems better to let the fire go out, than to continue working to build it up again.
If you are struggling with those feelings, please know that there is help, and there is hope. There is a breeze that can blow on that struggling spark, and can fan it once again into flame. Your life has a purpose, and only you can find that purpose. But the people who surround you in your life can help. Parents, friends, spouses, children, counselors, pastors… turn to them, let them help you rekindle not only the spark, but the blazing flame of life. If you feel you have no one to speak to, call 1-800-273-8255 The National Suicide Prevention Hotline.
It breaks my heart that Robin couldn’t find within himself the freedom to live. I pray that each of you do.

From the Mailbox

Have you ever considered using hypnosis to help you become a better student? Hypnotherapy can be very effective in helping students build better study habits and overcome test anxiety. And please note, I am talking about all students. I have successfully helped students from elementary to graduate levels, including those about to take the Bar Exam, MCAT, ACT, SAT, and GRE examinations, as well as licensing exams for Nursing Boards, and the ever problematic high school physics exam.

Just this weekend, I received the following e-mail, reprinted with permission of the sender on the condition that only initials be used as an identifier.

Hi Linda, I just got done taking the test and I feel great!!! Everything happened like we planned it to and my stress never raised above a 3-4!!! It was awesome. I don’t get my scores back for a month but I feel that I already scored big by just being able to do this confidently and calmly.  (Signed) SW

If you are facing a big test in the near future, and would like to experience this kind of confidence in taking that exam, give Linda a call at 616-550-3231 to schedule  your appointment.

Hypnosis and Sleep

Did you know that almost 80% of all adults in the US don’t get enough sleep? The average adult needs between 7.5 and 8 hours of sleep per night, and most of us just don’t get it. The causes of sleep deprivation differ, but no matter the cause, the effects are devastating; loss of productivity at work, increased stress, mood disorders, and even many car accidents are directly linked to sleep deprivation.

Learning to let the body and the mind relax and slow down to encourage sleep is easy with hypnosis. A  recent study showed that even people who were considered “low” in susceptibility for hypnosis reported improved quantity and quality of sleep after listening to a brief 13 minute recording giving suggestions for a deep sleep.

If you would like to use hypnosis to help you sleep you better, call Linda at 616-550-3231 to schedule your personal session.
